I just finished my third two-week stint at Valorme. Foix is a wonderful and comforting small city in which to be a foreigner; Corine is particularly patient and skilled at noting where each student needs attention. Moreover, the people who choose to study at Valorme are always very "amiable" and make the classes interesting and lively. Enjoy!

In 2016, I took two month-long French immersion courses in southern France. Valorme was the one I chose to return to this year, and this time with my husband. In fact, many of the students at Valorme are returning for a second or even third time--a fact which speaks volumes about the quality of Corine's instruction as well as the accommodations. I'll say a few words about each.
First, the instruction. I'm a professor of education, and I can't say enough about Corine's approach to teaching French to adult learners. The courses are offered at various levels and for varying lengths of time. Activities are varied and well-keyed to the needs of the particular learners (never more than 6) and the pace is relaxed. Corine's explanations are very clear, and she has a wonderful sense of humour. Afternoons are typically spent on excursions, so you get a chance to see quite a lot of the stunning countryside--the castles, caves with prehistoric drawings, subterranean rivers, etc. And for the weekends, there are some terrific hiking trails into the nearby mountains, as well as the charming town of Foix to explore.
Second, the accommodations. Valorme is unique in that it offers learners studio apartments in the same building in which the course is offered. The apartments are very clean and comfortable, with a magnificent view of Foix castle, which is almost next door. The apartment kitchens are well-equipped, and laundry facilities are available in the building as well.
I can't recommend this program enough--and yes, I hope to return for a third visit in the not-too-distant future!

I have found Valorme to be the rare program having the capacity to take advanced students to their next level. First of all, because it is rare to hear languages other than French on the street, Foix offers the ideal environment for immersing yourself in the language.
As for the school itself, classes are limited to six people, thus offering ample opportunity for oral practice both in the classroom and in the real world. Thanks to her many years of teaching French as a foreign language, Corine has a keen ear for spotting habitual errors and an arsenal of corrective exercises--written, oral and aural--with which to address them. She also takes pains to place students in groups in which they will both learn and enjoy themselves.
Privacy in living arrangements is often of major concern to adult students. Student apartments at Valorme are completely independent just as they would be in any apartment building, each one having its own kitchen and bathroom. Furnishings are attractive, there is internet access throughout the building, and linen is changed once a week.
I can recommend Valorme without reservation.

Wonderful location, comfortable little apartment in an atmospheric old town. The standard of teaching was excellent and the afternoon excursions were fun. Highly recommended. So good I will stay for two weeks next time. Thank you Corine.

I chose Valorme on the recommendation of an English friend who had gone there. I have been there three times now. Two other friends, one Norwegian and the other American/English have gone there and have also liked it very much. So put us down as Fans of Valorme!
I learned a lot and fell satisfied that I got my money's worth.
One of the advantages of Valorme is that because Corine is a solo teacher, she is not bound by a curriculum and can adapt her method and choose materials to meet students' needs...even at the drop of a hat as people's attention flags or she senses the need for a change of pace.
Because Foix is off the beaten track, fewer people speak English than in a larger city. And because it is small and everybody in town knows Corine, when they see you with her, they will know that you want to use French. (In fact, Corine avoids restaurants where the staff will tend to speak English to students.)

I can recommend the immersion course at 'Valorme' without reservation. Everything promised on the website was fulfilled, and Corine communicated with me promptly and clearly from my very first email enquiry.
The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and very well-maintained, with attention to detail such as nice lighting and freshly ironed tea towels.
I really enjoyed the lessons and found Corine to be very professional: always well prepared, approachable and able to meet the learning needs of all in the class.
Afternoon excursions were organised with consultation, and eating lunches together was an easy way of getting to know the other students as well as learning about French cuisine and manners. I was only able to attend for one week, and wished I could have stayed for a second, so I may well be back.

Last year Rich and I visited Corine Rouleau to do a reconnaissance on her small French immersion school (valorme.com) in Foix at the foot of the Pyrenees. We had always talked about really trying to improve our French and our visit with Corine “sealed the deal”. Corine and her husband Alain bought a small apartment building in the medieval section of Foix seven years ago and subdivided into several studio apartments. She has no more than six students at a time and does not mix beginners with more advanced students in any one week.
This experience has far exceeded our expectations. Corine is a wonderful teacher who creates a very interesting and well-paced classroom experience. No language other than French is spoken and we saw tremendous progress from the beginning of the week to the end, so much so that Rich and I are trying to speak primarily in French even in our studio. After more than three hours in the classroom (with a coffee break where we speak only French as well), we all go to lunch together. There are at least twenty little restaurants in the old town so there is no shortage of choices. Of course we speak nothing but French at lunch as well! After we finish lunch, three days a week we go on an excursion to an interesting museum or site. Corine is our guide and we’ve loved every single experience, whether it’s a huge grotto with cave paintings, hiking up steep hills to a ruined Cathar castle or going to a charming town like Mirepoix. This is absolutely fantastic! On Wednesdays we have a free afternoon and on Fridays we have a course review in the afternoon. She really keeps us hoppin’!
The best part may be the end of the day when we prepare a salad in our room, slice up a fresh baguette and open a bottle of wine! Small though the studio is, it has a little refrigerator, a two-burner stove, a sink and a couple of cupboards with dishes and a few pots and pans; so it really is quite adequate. There’s a salon on our floor where we can watch French TV or read (French books) and we may not speak anything but French there.
